design challenge 1
“Home” - Made Mask
A symbol is a drawing, shape, or object that represents an idea, object, or amount of something.
Symbols are a universal language that help us communicate with one another without using words.
Have you ever seen the symbols below? What do they mean to you?
As the world fights COVID-19, masks have become a symbol of the outbreak, representing protection, safety, isolation, contamination, etc.
What do you think of when you see someone wearing a mask?
When you wear a mask, how do you feel?
Although there are many opinions about wearing masks during this current pandemic, everyone agrees on one thing we can all do to help stop the virus:
STAY HOME!
My Challenge:
Make a mask using a brown grocery bag. Use symbols and words to make a statement or convey a message. Feel free to create your own message or use one of the examples below.
Examples of messages include:
PROTECT: Nurses, patients, public health, and first responders
RESPECT: Public hospital nurses and patients
Patients before profits
Let us not take any chances

Solve the challenge. Don’t be afraid to bend the rules, “to think outside the box”, to question the challenge, to make mistakes, and to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.
You: “But Mrs. Maria, I don’t know how to draw or how to paint!”
Me: If you can hold a pencil and a brush, then you can do it!Put on the mask. Take it on a walk around your neighborhood. Take pictures of the mask and of you wearing it.
Email or text me the two pictures at ma@mariaamalia.com or 224-402-0865.
You have one week to complete the challenge!
