This solo exhibition showcases my body of work titled Fragmentos. Informed by the natural processes of growth and decay, change and transformation, each paper fragment is a poetic and abstract narrative embedded and embroidered with seeds. The week after my grandmother passed away, I worked intuitively, forming sheets of paper while listening to boleros (a genre of slow-tempo Latin music). Remembering the way she danced with my grandfather, sang to her parakeet, cared for her orchids, and cooked the most delicious picadillos, I pulp painted my way through memories of Tita Aurora. When all I had left of her was intangible, the transformative act of papermaking started a healing process through an art experience that was tactile and physical.
