In December 2019, I connected with our Madison community through a six week residency at Hawthorne Public Library working with a group from Girls Inc entitled Weaving Home & Community. I led the participants in making woven homes from recycled metal hangers and fabric donated by the local community.
Taking the left over recycled cotton fabric from the project, I beat it into a pulp and with it made handmade paper. I embedded thread that frayed from the fabric strips. During the project, the girls had worked on writing and drawing prompts about home, which were scanned and then printed onto the handmade sheets of paper. This artist book documents the heart and soul of the project and reminds us that our stories of home, when shared, can build a beautiful community.
